Katherine Hurdley and Alex Percy are both second generation folk musicians performing captivating music from the English tradition on fiddle, guitar and vocals. In particular tunes and songs inspired by, and collected from, their native counties of Leicestershire and Dorset.
Outside of the duo both are established musicians; Alex is often on tour in his role as the English quarter of celtic tune maestros The Long Notes, which features some of the best players from Ireland, England and Scotland. In 2011 this has included a tour of Austria, two tours of the UK as well as other gigs in Italy and Switzerland. Their new CD 'In the Shadow of Stromboli' was released at the O2 in Glasgow as part of the Celtic Connections festival in January 2012.
Katherine meanwhile plays with The QP, a folk fusion band from Sheffield - winners of the Spiral Earth Awards 2010 'BEST DEBUT' and regular performers on the folk festival scene. Their second album 'Gâteau de Boeuf', will be released at Cheltenham Folk Festival 2012.
The new duo tested the water at a couple of festivals and venues in 2011 where they were acclaimed for their clear, captivating vocals and the energetic live vibe when playing with the subtle backing of double bass (Andrew North), bodhran (Tad Sargent) and wooden flute (Sarah Mooney). With several key dates and a forthcoming CD lined up for 2012, they look forward to an exciting new year of gigs both as a duo and with their superb backing band.
